On November 18 in Brisbane, some of Australia's biggest musical and comedic acts will convince the youngsters to vote.
In quite a coup (the non-political kind), Rock The Vote has snared the talents of You Am I, Peter Garrett, Spiderbait, Shihad, The Butterfly Effect, Lyrics Born, Pigeon John, Soma Rasa, Resin Dogs, Ace, DJ Nick Toth, DJ Sampology, True Live, satirists The Chaser Team, comedian Meshel Laurie and music host Jabba to urge the kids to rock and enrol during a massive concert at the RNA Showgrounds.Of course, while the rock, hip-hop and dance fun is going on, Rock The Vote is also about educating the kids about the forthcoming election. Recently, our benevolent overlords passed a Bill that changes enrollment laws. Previously, those who weren't enrolled could do it up to a week before the election. Now, if you're not enrolled when the election is announced, you're screwed.
So even if you can't make it to the RNA Showgrounds on November 18, get out and enroll to vote. Considering the new draconian laws regarding protest and dissent (specifically the recent sedition laws), voting is fast becoming the only way you can have a say in your nation's future.
