Wendy Matthews was the star attraction for Record Store Day Australia at Songland Records in the ACT suburb of Tuggeranong with fans turning out to meet and greet her and get a signed copy of her new album `She`.
Songland’s Frog Harris loved the idea of a national Record Store Day for Australia. "After 30 years in the industry, I've seen technology change but not people's love for music. Record Store Day has shown me the public value what we do," he tells Undercover News.Songland regularly hosts artists in-store. Russell Morris, Brian Cadd, Melinda Schneider, Short Stack, Leo Sayer, Lee Kernaghan and John Schumann have made their way to the store but the national day reminds music fans of thrill of the shopping experience. “Today, people lined up to buy Wendy Matthews' "She" CD, to appreciate the artwork, get it autographed, to admire and show their friends their new purchase along with a photo of the star with themselves (and their children). Do you know anyone that has their MP3 player cherished and autographed"?, he said.
Wendy Matthews liked the idea of visiting Songland because it gave her a chance to connect with her fans. "Music is one of the ultimate ways people connect and, for an artist ,unique promotions such as Record Store Day give the opportunity to say thank you to the fans and to hear what is important to them, to shake their hands and give them a photo opportunity that can only be done in a real life, not online," Frog said.
401 stores across Australia took part in Record Store Day Australia.
