PETA Wants Pet Shop Boy To Change Name

Sat, 11 Apr 2009 08:29:01 +1000

PETA has asked Pet Shop Boys to change their name to something more animal friendly.

The British pop duo - Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe - have been rejecting calls from animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to be rechristened Rescue Shelter Boys.

The pressure group also wrote to the 'West End Girls' musicians asking them to help their campaign to stop people buying cats and dogs from pet shops.

Although the pair have refused alter their moniker, Neil and Chris have praised the cause.

The duo's representatives made a post on their official website stating:

"PETA has written to the Pet Shop Boys with a request they are unable to agree to but nonetheless think raises an issue worth thinking about."

PETA Special Projects Manager Yvonne Taylor is pleased the band have taken the letter seriously, even though they declined the request.

She said: "Neil Tennant, who posted this, showed that the Pet Shop Boys are just as smart as their lyrics and appreciate PETA's creative ways of bringing issues to the public."
