Last week I caught myself listening to the Mishka ‘Above The Bones’ album repeatedly in the office. It has been years since such an authentic reggae album with appeal to a mainstream audience has been released.
Mishka is different because he is genuine. He was raised in Bermuda. He looks like a surfer and sounds like a Wailer. Mishka may very well be the catalyst for a renewed interest in reggae. It was actor Matthew McConaughey who discovered him and liked the sound so much that he started his J.K. Livin label just to release him.
Mishka had two previous albums prior the ‘Above The Bones’ but this album is his first with McConaughey.
It is a great match. McConaughey is the best publicist an artist has ever had. He takes him on his talk show interviews and had two Mishka tracks placed in his last movie ‘Surfer, Dude’.
Aussies will get the chance to hear Mishka live when he heads down under for two shows at the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival next week and a show in both Sydney and Melbourne the following week.
Have a listen to Mishka. If you like reggae, you will like Mishka.
