Lou Reed is promising that for his next shows there will be no songs and no vocals. You would think that would be enough to turn even the most diehard Lou Reed fan off going but no, Lou Reed fans are a group to their own.
Reed will be performing his bizarre 70s feedback album ‘Metal Machine Music’.‘Metal Machine Music’ was the 1975 double album featuring just four sides of noise. “I was serious about it. I was also really, really stoned”, Reed once said in explaining why it even exists.
Time can be a funny thing though and over time, ‘Metal Machine Music’ started to make since in a music world that discovered grunge.
Then in 2007, German music ensemble Zeitkratzer decided to perform the piece live. They invited Reed to participate and he did. The performance was released as a live album.
Reed will perform Metal Machine Music live with the Metal Maching Trio: MM3, featuring Ulrich Krieger on tenor sax and Sarth Calhoun on continuum and live processing.
The shows will be on April 23 and 24 at the Blender Theater in Gramercy, NYC.
