Charges against Ethiopian singer Wayna have been dropped after she was charged with carrying a weapon at Houston airport on March 26th.
Wayna had been in Texas for the SXSW music conference. She appeared in court to answer the complaint against her.
The singer had the baton she uses in her act in her carry-on luggage instead of her checked luggage after she was in a hurry to catch a plane. She uses it in her song ‘Billy Club’, a song about police brutality.
Her attorney, Kyle R. Sampson said that she was treated like any other citizen in the same circumstances.
On route to Miami the singer says she simply forgot she had the weapon in her carry-on bag. "I'm deeply thankful for all the prayers and expressions of support I've received. Obviously, the past 48 hours have been life-altering. I'm incredibly relieved and grateful that it's over and that justice prevailed."
“We are certain that many people can attest to the experience of having to rush to catch a plane and mistakenly forgetting to put certain items in their luggage to be checked”, the statement read.
Wayna was on her way to perform at the Winter Festival.
