In recent interviews, Sting and Pete Townshend have been grumbling about new rock and old rockers.
Police bassist and singer, and inordinately successful solo AOR star Sting told German newspaper Die Zeit that he's given up on rock. Reuters reports that he said, "Rock music has come to a standstill - it's not going forward any more, it only bores me." This almost explains why Sting's latest album consists of Elizabethan lute music, composed by Englishman John Dowland. The record, 'Songs From The Labyrinth', hit the top of the classical charts in the US and the UK.Where Sting is decrying the death of rock n' roll, bandleader of UK legends The Who Pete Townshend seems to be waiting for the death of old rock n' rollers. Although the man was quoted in a recent Rolling Stone interview saying he was at the top of his game, he also quipped "I don't want to go out and see Bob Dylan. I don't want to go out and see the Stones. I wouldn't pay money to go see the Who, not even with new songs," claiming that they're all "old guys in their self-congratulatory mode."
