Rumours circulate that actress Scarlett Johansson is pursuing a peculiar musical project.
While no official statements from the Johansson camp have been made, rumours are circulating that Scarlett will follow in the footsteps of fellow "slashies" and record an album. But there'll be no pre-processed pop for Johansson, as reports suggest she'll sing an album worth of songs by Tom Waits.Yes, Tom Waits, the gravelly-voiced ghoulish bluesman. The pale wisp of an actress is mooted to sing songs written by Tom Waits. Yes. The album is apparently being recorded now and should wind up by the end of the year. Reports suggest that the album will be released by a recently revived offshoot label of Rhino Records called Atco. Johansson has appeared on a Rhino album release before, an all-film star compilation called 'Unexpected Dreams' where she provided an extra-breathy version of George Gershwin's 'Summertime'.
If true, this direction will only encourage the Marilyn Monroe comparisons which have so far defined Johansson's promising career.
