Paul Simon fans who went along to his show on Friday night at New York`s Beacon Theater were treated to a rare surprise. They got Art Garfunkel as well.
Simon & Garfunkel were together again on stage performing their old hits ‘The Sounds of Silence’, ‘The Boxer’ and ‘Old Friends’.The show was a Paul Simon show. Garfunkel was not advertised. However, a few people on the inside must have known because it was a star-studded audience.
Paul McCartney was in the audience. So was Jon Bon Jovi. These people just don’t turn up for a show unless it is going to be something.
New York’s Village Voice reported that McCartney nearly created a stampede when the crowd saw him arrive for the show.
90 minutes into the show, Simon announced, “Ladies and gentlemen, my old friend Art Garfunkel”.
The Simon show was the first in the newly refurbished New York landmark venue since $16 million was spent on an upgrade.
Simon called his reunion with Garfunkel “a gift to New York City”.
Garfunkel was knocked out by the crowd’s reaction. “The fact that you still care is tremendous,” he told the audience.
