Nashville based Aussie country star Keith Urban and his wife Nicole Kidman have donated $500,000 to the Australian Bushfire Appeal.
With the fires still raging out of control outside Melbourne and across Victoria, the Urbans had an early start to their day today to appeal live from Nashville on the Channel 9 telethon."Our hearts go out tonight to all the families that are dealing with the loss of loved ones and having to rebuild their lives again," Keith said on the program.
More than 1000 homes have been destroyed in the blaze. The death toll stands at 181 but is expected to go as high as 300. More than 1 million animals were killed in the blaze, the worst in Australian history.
The Urbans have been watching the terror of the fires on television in America. "As Australians, I think the biggest thing is that no matter where you are in the world, we support each other and we rally,” Nicole said.
Last nights telethon raised $21 million. The money will go to the Red Cross.
