No strangers to controversy, thoroughly evil thrash metal legends Slayer have had their album recalled in India.
According to Reuters, the nation's Christian community were insulted by the album's cover art, which depicts their saviour as a mangled zombie with missing arms and an eyepatch. Not only was this image riling God-botherers on the subcontinent, but they say songs like 'Skeleton Christ' and 'Jihad' "hurt the sensibilities of Christians and Muslims alike".Reuters quotes Joseph Dias of Mumbai's Catholic Secular Forum saying,"We took strong exception to the album which is offensive and in very bad taste." Slayer's Indian label EMI recalled the album, general manager T. Suresh explaining, "We didn't want any community to be hurt." Indian religious groups have also recently protested Paris Hilton's album and 'The Da Vinci Code' film.
Slayer should be used to this by now, since almost every album after their 1983 debut 'Show No Mercy' has featured a satanic title and imagery (including 'Hell Awaits', 'South of Heaven', 'Diabolus In Musica, 'God Hates Us All' and plenty more) and 'Christ Illusion' was originally scheduled for a release on June 6 this year, ie 06/06/06.
