Canadian singer Feist has raised more than $200,000 at her online store for charity.
“We've tallied the numbers, connected the dots, and are delighted to report that over $200,000 has been donated to various excellent organizations,” she proudly states in a blog at her Myspace site. All of the money went to worthwhile causes. “These organizations include MSF Canada, CARE Canada, War Child Canada and The Salvation Army (for Dr. Paul Thistle, Howard Hospital, Zimbabwe),” she says. “All of these agencies will continue to do immeasurably positive things, like: build schools, dig wells, educate communities and, in general, do piles of good well beyond the reach of rock and roll. We also undertook an incredible food drive! Near $20,000 was donated to food banks across Canada, not including the incredible 17,000 pounds of food that was delivered to tables across Canada during the November tour”.
The money came from 100% of the profits from the online store and merch from her gigs as well as a food drive.
Fiest is calling on fans to continue to give in 2009, especially through the food drive and is calling for volunteers in Canada for food banks. Find out more at http://foodbankscanada.ca/main.cfm
