The good old 12-inch vinyl album made a comeback in 2008 with Radiohead topping the LP chart.
Before you start selling your iPod, let me point out that while vinyl experienced a growth of 89%, we are talking total sales of 1.88 million units.The number one LP of the year went to Radiohead for ‘In Rainbows’. It sold 25,800 units, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
Axl Rose also made a top 10 for ‘Chinese Democracy’ with thanks to vinyl sales. The album sold 13,600 LPs.
Number two was a surprise. The second biggest LP of 2008 went to The Beatles for ‘Abbey Road’.
Radiohead were also the biggest selling vinyl artist of the year with 61,000 units sold. Number two was Metallica moving 39,500 units and number three The Beatles on 20,400 units.
