The Beastie Boys play songs spanning their entire back catalogue for anti-animal cruelty benefit in Manhattan.
VH1 reports that on October 4 those in the know poured into the boutique Maritime Hotel in Manhattan's West Side to see hip-hop champions the Beastie Boys play a special secret show for the ASPCA and Rational Animal. And they paid handsomely, general admission tickets going for $50 and VIP tickets for up to $875, with all profits going to the animal-welfare charities. After New York punk and grunge acts warmed up the crowd, the seminal New York rap trio emerged to their beats of longtime DJ Mixmaster Mike. In their most intimate hometown show since 1995, the aging rappers deftly ran through tunes from their twenty-year career, from 'Slow & Low' (which appeared on their 1986 debut album 'Licence To Ill') all the way up to 'Triple Trouble' from 2004's old skool 'To The Five Boroughs'.
The review on VH1 praised their hour-long performance, which was one of the only shows they have done this year alongside a South By Southwest appearance to promote their live DVD 'Awesome: I F***in' Shot That'. The Beasties are also reportedly working on a new album.
