Presley's previously prohibited pelvis gains a new life via a three-DVD set of Elvis on Ed Sullivan.
Most will either remember the incident, or the many thousands of times it has been repeated, where a rebel Elvis appeared on Ed Sullivan for the first time gyrating his downstairs and sending the girls wild (and the censors into paroxysms). This was on September 9, 1956, and now Image Entertainment are releasing a three-DVD set containing this legendary first performance, as well as the other complete Ed Sullivan episodes where Elvis featured. The episodes features a fresh-faced and confident Elvis playing classics like 'Love Me Tender' 'Don't Be Cruel', 'Ready Teddy', 'Hound Dog', Lieber & Stoller's 'Love Me', 'Heartbreak Hotel', 'Too Much', 'When My Blue Moon Turns To Gold Again' and 'Peace In The Valley'.
By the third performance, CBS censors had made sure that he was shown from the waist up so as not to stir any unseemly feelings in America's heartland, but Ed Sullivan noted that Elvis was "A real decent fine boy" and went on to stumble through the compliment, "We've never had a pleasanter experience on our show with a big name than we've had with you ... You're thoroughly all right."
