Australia and New Zealand’s contingent at South by Southwest in 2009 is one of the most diverse selections of talent these two countries have to offer.
The Drones and My Disco carry on the tradition of late 70s and early 80s Australian art-rock from the likes of The Birthday Party and in the case of My Disco even late 80s/early 90s thunder-gods The Mark of Cain come to mind. The Boat People and Birds of Tokyo cover the guitar-pop sounds and for some true Australianism, we’re even sending over Blue King Brown.
Infusion look after the electronic edge of Australian music, which is a gutsy move at the usually rock-oriented festival.
From New Zealand, Elemeno-P, Kylie Harris and Midnight Youth are the only three to be invited so far.
