Melbourne music identities Miranda Young and Jeff Jenkins have been secretly working away for the past three years gathering up rock and roll stories from the people behind the scenes in the music industry.
The fruit of that labor is the book ‘Rock Reader: Underneath The Riffs’.Asking music industry peeps to come forward with their best industry stories can be challenging at the best of times, but ‘Underneath The Riffs’ has gathered up a great collection of yarns from the likes of Molly Meldrum, Michael Gudinski, Sarah Morgan, Wally Meanie, Jonathan Alley, Brian Nankervis, Fifa Riccobono, Tim Rogers, Denis D’Sylva, Paddy Donovan, James Young and Ed Nimmervoll (hey didn’t he write Red Headed Wild Flower).
Molly tells the story of Mick Jagger and promoter Paul Dainty playing a practical joke on each other. It involved a hotel room, a lot of sheep and a lot of pigeons.
Sarah talks about a birthday surprise that the mother of Faith No More frontman Billy Gould had her arrange.
Paddy Donovan writes about how after a drunken evening the idea for AC/DC Lane came about.
James Young says how he got back stage at a Stones gig.
Undercover was at the launch of Rock Reader: Underneath the Riffs this week in Melbourne.
