The name AC/DC came from Sandra Young, the wife of George Young, the brother of Angus and Malcolm.
“It was a bit of a combination,” Angus tells Undercover News. “We were tossing around names and she fired off that one. It just stuck. We thought it was a great name and we needed a name quick because we were going to this agency in Sydney and they were saying they had some gigs coming up so we needed a name”.George Young was a founding member of The Easybeats and later became half of Flash and the Pan with fellow Easybeats founder Harry Vanda. He produced a lot of the early AC/DC albums including ‘Powerage’ and ‘High Voltage’ as well at 2000’s ‘Stiff Upper Lip.
The early days of AC/DC really were a family affair. It was the Angus and Malcolm’s sister who came up with the idea for Angus’ school uniform . “She used to always say “Angus would be running home and grabbing his guitar and he had his school suit and he was out the door” or I’d be locked in my room banging away on the guitar,” he said. “My sister always remembered me in a school uniform when I had my guitar. She said “why don’t you keep the uniform on”. It will give people something to look at”.
