New York furniture piece Lou Reed thinks it is about time that New York named a street after him.
In what was a bit of a throwaway question, Reed was asked what the next mayor of New York should do. “’Lou Reed Way’ would be nice”, he quipped. What was probably just a joke answer has now developed into possibility. Undercover hears that the idea is now being discussed by people in the city.
Reed is an icon of the area. He was born in Brooklyn and has his entire adult life living in Manhattan.
He says he lived in Ludlow St when he first moved to Manhattan “because it was cheap”.
New York recently named the corner of Bowery and Second after Joey Ramone.
Reed isn’t fussy about where the street is. “Any little street will do,” he said.
