Jarvis, KT Tunstall, Feist, Martha Wainwright, Laurie Anderson and Vanessa Carlton are just some of the artists on board the Cape Farewell, which is heading up to the arctic to investigate climate change.
The ship also includes playwrights, journalists, artists, a youth worker, oh, and some scientists. The expedition took off from Greenland and is heading north to Disko Bay, where they will witness first hand the effects of global warming. While the artic melting away wouldn’t raise sea level (it’s already floating), if the ice surrounding Greenland were to go, it could raise global water levels by seven metres.
While they’re there, the scientists will conduct research on the effects of rising sea levels, while artists will paint, write, perform and be inspired in general by what they’re seeing.
You can see some of the artworks on their website, www.capefarewell.com
According to the expedition’s website, “Cape Farewell is an umbrella charitable organisation that brings artists, scientists and educators together to collectively address and raise awareness about climate change.”
