70's Aussie pop band Sherbet have released their first new single in more than two decades.
The songs 'Hearts Are Insane' and 'Red Dress' were recorded earlier this year as the band rehearsed for their reformation shows on the Countdown tour.Sherbet's Garth Porter says in his liner notes that 'Hearts Are Insane' was actually written and demoed 20 years ago. "It was strange but invigorating going back to the old song idea, and updating the style. I was surprised at the optimism of the song," he says.
"Red Dress' is brand new. "During rehearsals in Blackheath, taking a coffee break at the Victory Caf??, I was browsing through the poetry section of second hand books adjacent to the coffee tables. I pulled out a collection titled B Grade by Zan Ross. I flicked through the pages and came across a poem called 'Baby's Got A Red Dress On'. I liked the frivolous sexy mood. We connected the lyric idea with a groove we had been jamming and it morphed into 'Janey's Got A Red Dress On'. Dance On" he said.
Both songs also feature on the new Sherbet best of 'Superhits'.
