Scissor Sisters frontman Jake Shears foils their US chart chances with an offhand comment about CD prices.
Although Scissor Sisters are storming the UK charts with their new album 'Ta-Dah', and their number one single 'Don't Feel Like Dancin'', head Sister Jake Shears may have sabotaged their chances for a high chart position in the US by offending retail chain For Your Entertainment. At a recent convention for the National Association of Recording Merchandisers, Shears complained about the price of the new Raconteurs album. He said that at US$20 it was too expensive to buy (although he rounded up from the actual price of US$18.99).Upon hearing this, FYE has got uppity and decided not to carry the Scissor Sisters new album. FYE is owned by Trans World Entertainment, one of North America's largest music retailers. Now that all Trans World Entertainment outlets refuse to carry the album, MTV reports that the comments will cost the band sales in over 1,100 stores across 26 states.
Poor little Trans World Entertainment CEO Jim Litwak said, "All [Scissor Sisters'] had to do was pick up the phone and talk to us. But they didn't elect to do that. We were ignored, and he made those comments. So who's the injured party here?"
