Former Blink-182 and current +44 drummer Travis Barker is expected to make a full recovery after being seriously burnt in a plane crash on Friday night.
Barker and DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) were traveling back to California after performing at a show in South Carolina.Barker usually refuses to fly on a private jet but made an exception on Friday so that his friend and assistant Chris Baker could attend the birth of his first child after learning that his wife had gone into labour.
Baker was killed in the crash, along with Charles Still, also from Barker’s entourage. The pilot Sarah Lemmon and co-pilot James Bland were also killed in the accident.
A blown tire at take-off was the cause of the accident. The recovered black-box recorded revealed that attempts had been made to reject the take-off but the pilot was unable to stop the aircraft.
Barker and DJ AM had just performed at the free concert in the Five Points district. Gavin DeGraw and Perry Farrell were also on the bill.
A statement has been released on behalf of Barker and Goldstein by their families.
It reads:
"Both Travis Barker and Adam Goldstein (DJ AM) are currently being treated for second and third degree burns. Barker suffered from burns on his torso and lower body and Goldstein suffered from burns on his arm and a portion of his head," according to the statement. "Since both Barker and Goldstein are in overall good health and didn't suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected."
