The MTV Awards are officially underway, but what was the point of Britney Spears` silly sketch at the start with Jonah Hill, and what exactly did she have to say in the opening?
MTV placed Britney at the start of this year’s show purely as a promotional opportunity leading up to the show. She said absolutely nothing but it got them a lot of lead-up press. The sketch with Knocked Out star Jonah Hill wasn’t at all funny. It wasn’t unfunny. It was just a nothing moment. A gag about Jonah and Britney once pashing? A bit of school-boy humour for an international production is the best MTV has?
Presenter Russell Brand was good but went right over the audience’s head. Like he said, he is very famous in Britain. It showed.
The first award for Female Video went to Britney, who in accepting thanked God. Or was that more of a “thank God I won an award”, it was hard to tell.
The MTV VMA’s get a lot of press, but does MTV have any relevance to music anymore? No.
