Heralded by many as one of the greatest drummers that ever lived, Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham died 26 years ago, yesterday.
Bonham was found dead in Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page's house in Windsor on September 25th, 1980, after downing a rumoured forty shots of vodka. He died of asphyxiation, after choking on his own vomit during the night.Bonham was cremated, but a memorial plaque exists near his farm, The Old Hyde that reads "Cherished memories of a loving husband and father, John Henry Bonham, who died September 25th, 1980. He will always be remembered in our hearts. Goodnight my love, god bless."
Ten years exactly after he died, a young Dave Grohl - who publicly worships the Zeppelin drummer - joined Nirvana.
Bonham's son Jason Bonham is currently taking part in the reality TV series 'Supergroup', with Sebastian Bach (ex Skid Row), Evan Seinfeld (ex Biohazard), Ted Nugent and Scott Ian (Anthrax).
