The Malaysian government has reconsidered its ban on the Avril Lavigne show and will now allow the popstar to perform in the country.
Avril was banned by the Malaysian government because the show was considered “too sexy” after she had already sold 10,000 tickets.Malaysia’s Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party attempted to have the show banned but has withdrawn opposition to the show after the promoter proved there would be no “negative elements”.
Malaysia has strict moral codes when it comes to Western performances. Beyonce and Christina Aguilera have also had problems performing in the country.
Women must perform covered from next to knees. There cannot be any drug references or obscene language. Kissing and jumping is also banned onstage.
They tend to, you know, sometimes not want Western artists in their country," Avril told MTV. "I respect that, but at the same time, you know, there's people that listen to music there and want to see their idols and stuff, so it's all good: been approved by the government and [I'm] going to go put on a show and have fun."
The show will go ahead on August 29.
