Women`s action group WomenCount is demanding an apology from rapper Ludacris, after he addressed Hilary Clinton as “an irrelevant bitch” in his song `Politics`.
"This is not an issue of being PC," says Rosemary Camposano, communications director for WomenCount in a statement, "This is about beginning the grinding and painful process of rooting out this kind of hate language and behavior whenever and wherever it exists. The Democratic leadership have pledged to unhinge our nation from gender-bias, hate-language and misogyny and we are taking them at their word."The song also attacks George W. Bush and John McCain so Ludacris is clearly not playing sides.
Ludacris released the song in support of Senator Obama.
The lyrics state “Hilary hated on you, so that bitch is irrelevant”.
“McCain don`t belong in any chair unless he`s paralyzed,” he says about John McCain.
Bush cops it with the line “yeah I said it cause Bush is mentally handicapped” and “you the worst of all 43 presidents”.
“The world is ready for change because Obama is here,” he sings.
WomenCount says that both sides, including Obama, should condemn the song. "It is another example of hateful, sexist language being used on the campaign trail, and now is our moment to make it clear: not on our watch! The leadership of both parties must step up to condemn such hateful speech and demand apologies. The Obama campaign has criticized the lyrics, but we call on the presumptive party nominee, who is the celebrated subject of the new song, to go even further: Publicly condemn the song. Demand an apology on behalf of the targets. Now."
Obama`s team has complied. "As Barack Obama has said many, many times in the past, rap lyrics today too often perpetuate misogyny, materialism and degrading images that he doesn`t want his daughters or any children exposed to. This song is not only outrageously offensive to Senator Clinton, Reverend Jackson, Senator McCain and President Bush, it is offensive to all of us who are trying to raise our children with the values we hold dear. While Ludacris is a talented individual, he should be ashamed of these lyrics," they have said about the song.
Ludacris is expected to make a statement about the Obama statement later this week.
