Sydney’s annual Australian music festival Homebake has been announced for 2008 and as per usual they have a stellar selection of new and old Australian bands.
The real crowd drawer will be the recently(ish) reunited Crowded House taking the headline spot. If the Finn Brothers’ spectacular “all star” performance at the festival a few years back is anything to go by, this will be another magic two hour singalong.Sneaky Sound System will take care of the pop side of things and Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson will entertain people with stuff from their spectacular album ‘Rattlin’ Bones’ from earlier this year.
Uber successful pop singer Gabriella Cilmi will tattoo her song ‘Sweet About Me’ forever into your psyche, and PNAU will cause your booty to shake like it has never shook before.
But don’t think it’s all about the kids... in fact, this year for the second time due to licensing restrictions, it’s less about the kids than ever (it’s an over 18s event now)... but aside from that, the older folks will get the chance to check out Died Pretty and You Am I.
On the local side of things, two bands that have reclaimed Melbourne’s title of the live music capital of Australia; Little Red and Eddy Current Suppression Ring are both going to Sydney what the southern outpost is made of.
These bands and more will appear on four stages and there will also be the Homebake Cinema Tent, which will show a special screening of ‘1 Giant Leap’.
The festival will take place at The Domain in Sydney’s Royal Botanic Gardens on Saturday, December 6, 2008.
Tickets are on sale on Monday, August 18 at 9am and cost $87.50 (or about the price of Crowded House alone last year).
The full lineup is Crowded House, Sneaky Sound System, The Vines, Cut Copy, Gabriella Cilmi, PNAU, Kasey Chambers and Shane Nicholson, Died Pretty, The Potbelleez, Bliss n Eso, Karnivool, You Am I, Headless Chickens, British India, The Getaway Plan, Infusion, Sparkadia, Bluejuice, Eddie Current Suppression Ring, Drapht, Little Red, Bag Raiders (Live), Snob Scrilla, Pegz, Dash and Will and many more to be announced.
