ZZ Top fans will be the first to agree that the sound of ZZ Top of the 90s and today pretty much drove into a ditch.
Well, new Top producer Rick Rubin is planning on returning the band to their commercial sound of the 80s with their next album. The band recently signed to Rubin's American Recording label.
Rubin was the man behind the last 5 Johnny Cash albums and the recent successes of Neil Diamond but his background is in producing great rock acts like AC/DC and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
ZZ Top is currently in the studio with Rubin working on their first studio album in 5 years. That album, 'Mescalero' only sold around 100,000 units in the USA. That is a far cry from their 10-million+ seller 'Eliminator' that featured the hits 'Gimme All Your Lovin', 'Sharp Dressed Man' and 'Legs'.
