The music industry waited three years for an album to sell 1 million in a week. That was Lil Wayne's 'The Carter III' last week. So, will Coldplay reach the same benchmark this week?
'Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends' will certainly come close. The album has sold around 570,000 in early counting with 61% of the week' sales tallied, according to Hits Daily Double.
On one-day sales, Hits predicted the album would do around 700,000 but it looks to do better.
Coldplay's last album 'X&Y' sold 737,000 units in week one in the USA and went on to sell 3.1 million.
In the UK, the album did over 300,000 in the first week and after 10 days is just to more than 500,000 sales.
In Australia, it did 41,000 units in the first week, but that didn't take into consideration an additional 2700 units sold the day before the official release by stores that broke the embargo.
