As my less prog-rock-fusion-unclassifiable-whatever-music-enthusiast colleagues will gladly confirm, Zappa Plays Zappa - the tour in which Dweezil Zappa (son of Frank) toured the world and performed his father's music - is now available on DVD.
The double DVD + CD package has graced our office for the last three hours (I haven't got to the CD yet) and if you saw this show anywhere in the world last year, and enjoyed it, this pack is a must own.Since the songs of Zappa are so complex and layered, it's difficult to get a scope of everything that was going on in a live setting, and while yes, you do get the excitement of a live show, on DVD you can go back again and again and watch amazing stuff from Steve Vai (the "little Italian virtuoso," as Frank used to call him), Terry Bozio, Napoleon Murphy and the incomparable multi instrumentalist Scheila Gonzalez.
This show in particular was recorded in Seattle, WA during the ZPZ world tour.
The DVD is in store now through Liberator Music.
