Lil Wayne is on track to have the fastest selling album of 2008. 'The Carter III' has sold 423000 units on its first day of release.
The album may end up selling over 900,000 in the first week. That would make it the fastest selling album of the year by double. Mariah Carey is the current titleholder for 2008 with sales of 475,000 in the first week for 'E=MC2".Kanye West did 957,000 units of 'Graduation' last year after selling 437,000 units on day one.
The last album to sell one million or more in one week was 50 Cent 'The Massacre'. It sold 1.1 million in the first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
This is mighty news for Universal Music. All four acts, Lil Wayne, Mariah Carey, 50 Cent and Kanye West, were released by Universal.
