The story goes a little bit like this. California-born daughter of two pastors who grew up listening to gospel music and singing in church has a huge hit on her hands with a song titled 'UR So Gay' and follows it up with the equally leso 'I Kissed A Girl'.
So who is this Katy Perry? Well, for starters, her debut album, released in 2001, came out titled under her real name Katy Hudson. She was 16 years old. It was an album of Christian music. It stiffed.She resurfaced in 2007 after being spotted by EMl's Jason Flom. He signed her to Capitol Music.
A few "product placement" roles followed for her. She made an appearance on 'Young & The Restless', appeared in an episode of TV show 'Wildfire' and had a cameo in Gym Class Heroes' 'Cupid's Chokehold' video.
The video for 'I Kissed A Girl' was released in May. It has had around 1.3 million views on MySpace.
Perry will release her album 'One For The Boys' later this year.
