Rapper Slick Rick has been officially pardoned by the New York governor for a crime he has served five years for, and been on a good behaviour bond for the last eleven.
He was convicted of shooting (but not killing) his cousin and a bystander in 1990 outside a club. His pardon comes in handy, since Rick is not actually an American citizen. His family moved to New York from the U.K. when he was just eleven years old, and despite having lived in America for 32 years, he can still be deported.
This pardon doesn't excuse him entirely, but it does leave him with a better argument to defend himself.
