David Cook was the surprise winner of American Idol today, beating out favorite David Archuleta.
Of the 97.5 million votes, Cook beat Archuleta by 12 million votes to take home the 7th season title. The ratio worked out to be 56% to Cook, 44% to Archuleta.What this says about the American public is scary. More people vote for American Idol than for the American president.
A special guest for the show joined both contestants. The rock orientated Cook performed a version of 'Sharp Dressed Man' with ZZ Top on the show, while the poppier Archuleta sang 'Apologize' with OneRepublic.
Cook also performed Collective Soul's 'The World I Know' on the show; Archuleta sand John Lennon's 'Imagine'.
The show was also a star-studded event. George Michael, Graham Nash and Donna Summer also appeared on the show.
