The ever-ambitious experimental folky Sufjan Stevens promises a five disc box-set of Yuletide ditties.
According to Pitchfork Media, Stevens will release his 'Songs For Christmas' quintuple album, replete with child-like fridge artwork, on the Asthmatic Kitty label in late November. Some of the songs had appeared previously on blogs, due to Stevens' propensity for sending Christmas EPs every year to friends. The box set will include the first four of these, alongside new silly season tunes recorded in June. The EPs comprised covers of snow-capped standards as well as some goofy originals with titles like 'Hey Guys! It's Christmas Time!', 'Come On! Let's Boogey to the Elf Dance!', 'That Was the Worst Christmas Ever!' and 'Get Behind Me, Santa!' While these themed albums are nothing new, it certainly reminds us of legendary punk pranksters The Vandals' legendary 'Oi To The World' album.
The freaky folkster, who once promised to write themed albums for each US state (and has already covered Michigan and Illinois), is currently on an extensive tour of the US, Canada, the UK, Europe and will wrap up in Iceland in November.
