Madonna had music shoppers heading back to the store last week, with more than 14,000 fans shopping for a copy of her 'Hard Candy' album.
Madonna beat Andre Rieu and Damien Leith to the top of the Australian chart, just one week out from the all-important Mother's Day chart.'Hard Candy' did 14,585 units compared to Rieu's 'Waltzing Matilda' with 10,426 and Leith's 'Catch The Wind: Songs of a Generation" with 9,688.
However, it was a great week for new music. Six albums debuted on this week's chart. Carl Risely's 'The Rise' was at number 5; Portishead 'Third' was at number 9 and Bliss N Eno's 'Flying Colours' debuted at number 10.
The Top 10 debuts accounted for 47,342 units of the Top 10 total of 68,719 (68.8%).
Madonna claimed 21.2% of the sales of the top 10.
Other debuts were 'So Much Beauty' Kate Ceberano at number 14, 'Them Vs You Vs Me' by Finger Eleven at number 58, MGMT 'Oracular Spectacular' at number 61, Willie Nelson's 'Legend: The Very Best of Willie Nelson' at number 67 and The Roots 'Rising Down' at number 100.
