Neil has also been outspoken about mixing products with artists. He has never had a sponsor. But on Tuesday morning, he will be singing for Sun.Neil Young has been announced as keynote speaker at the conference for Sun Microsystems executives next week.
According to the Sun Microsystems note for you, "Neil Young and Sun will make an announcement during the event, and provide a special demonstration of a new multi-media music project. Come hear and see what Java technology means to Neil Young".
So what is Neil up to?
Sun Microsystems produce the Java platform that powers around 5.5 billion devices in mobile phones, smart cards, blu-ray players, set-top boxes, PCs and car navigation systems.
We can only assume at this stage that Young will be using their technology to reach his audience for his next album 'Toast', due soon.
All will be revealed at the conference on Tuesday morning at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from 8.30am.
