Mariah Carey's 'E=MC2" number one debut this week in the USA left the competition well behind.
With around 463,000 units sold, 'E=MC2' blew Leona Lewis well away by 5 to 1, with 'Spirit' doing around 95,000 to land at number 2.Mariah's previous album 'The Emancipation of Mimi', which came out in healthier music industry times, didn't even do as was 'E=MC2' in its first week. 'Mimi' sold around 404,000 units in week one in 2005.
Mariah has easily reclaimed her superstar status after that run from the late 80s to the late 90s.
Following her run of number one albums, things started to turn soar on 'Glitter' in 2001. It reached number 7 and had worldwide sales of 3.4 million, compared to the 10 million for the previous record 'Rainbow'.
'Rainbow' was down on 'Butterfly'. 1997's 'Butterfly' did 15.5 million. Even that was half the sales of 1993's 'Music Box'. 'Music Box' is still her biggest worldwide hit. It sold 32 million.
'Glitter' was where the Mariah Carey seems to have hit rock bottom. 2002's 'Charmbracelet' sold 5 million worldwide. 'Mimi' did 10.2 million worldwide.
