Mariah Carey's recent Connecticut performance has drawn scathing reviews from fans and critics.
It's not that her substantial voice didn't stand up, or that it wasn't the spectacle that everyone expects from a modern diva of her calibre. It was that she spent only an hour on stage. According to the Connecticut Post, the show began half an hour late, a foreboding start. Cary performed thirteen songs, singing along to videos of the hip hop stars she has worked with and was swarmed by dancers in an obviously high-budget show. But after 75 minutes, fifteen of which were spent changing costumes, Carey wound up with 'We Belong Together' and left the stage. Houselights came up and thousands of fans were left wondering whether they got their money's worth (tickets selling from $90 to $150).
Femalefirst.co.uk reported that furious concertgoers demanded refunds, one saying "I've never seen anyone suck as bad in concert and just not care." It was reported that the oft-petulant diva also snapped at crew members while unaware her microphone was on.
Carey's The Adventures of Mimi tour continues through September into early October.
