Sony BMG head Clive Davis has been sidelined. The legendary record man has lost his role as Chairman and CEO to Zomba's Barry Weiss.
The move was part of a series of changes that also saw Charles Goldstuck, BMG President and COO dismissed from the company.Sony BMG's COO Tim Bowen has also fired from the company.
76 year old Clive Davis has been a legend in the music industry since the 60s. In 1967 he became President of Columbia Records. He was behind the signings of Janis Joplin, Bruce Springsteen, Billy Joel, Chicago and Santana for the label.
He left to start Arista Records in 1974. His star recruit for that label was Whitney Houston, but he also signed Dionne Warwick, Annie Lennox, Toni Braxton, The Kinks and Patti Smith to Arista. Davis was head of Arista until 2000 when he once again reinvented his career by founding J Records.
Under J Records, he resurrected the career of Santana and brought in Alicia Keys and the whole Idol thing.
Clive's new title at Sony BMG is Chief Creative Officer. His new package is unknown. He was reported to be on a $10 million a year package in the previous role.
