Journalist and musician Paul Stewart launched the 'I Am Woman' CD last night at Parliament House in Melbourne.
The album, featuring the Dili Allstars, is to help raise funds for the Bairo Pite Clinic in Dili. The centre sees more than 300 patients a day. It was established in 1999 to serve the immediate needs of a population effected by a humanitarian crisis.
The CD features, along with the Dili Allstars, songs from Vika and Linda Bull, Rebecca Barnard, Lisa Miller and Monique Brumby as well as a very unique version of Morcheeba's 'Rome Wasn't Built In A Day' by the Thursday Night Ballarat Women's Choir (and the name says exactly who they are).
The Thursday Night Ballarat Women's Choir performed their songs at the launch.
Other performers were Laura Santoni-Wing, Lizzie Cavanagh, METAC (East Timorese) Choir, Avina, Dili Allstars and a surprise appearance from the King himself, Paulie Presley (thankyou very much).
Funds raised from the 'I Am Woman' CD will go directly to improving the medical care for new mothers and their babies at the clinic and therefore improve the future if the world's newest nation, Timor-Leste.
The album can be purchased online here.
