It has been the worst kept secret in the music biz this year, but New Kids On The Block are getting back together.
Undercover first went with the story on January 28 this year.On Friday, Jordan Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Jonathan Knight, and Danny Wood, appeared on the Today Show to officially announce the news.
The Boston boy band will be back on the Today Show to perform on May 16 and then follow that up with a show at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, New Jersey on May 17 and a gig in hometown Boston at the Tweeter Center on May 18.
There will also be some new music soon.
New Kids On The Block was one of the first manufactured boy bands.
They formed in the early 80s after pop entrepreneur Maurice Starr decided to created a white version of his black boy band New Edition.
15 year old Donny Wahlberg was the first recruit. Donny brought in his brother Mark and his friend Danny Wood. They brought in school friend Jordan Knight who brought in his brother Jonathan.
Mark Wahlberg didn't stay long. He was replaced by Jaime Kelly who soon left to be replaced by Joey McIntyre and the line-up was complete.
The first album 'New Kids On The Block' in 1986 was a disaster but the second record 'Hangin' Tough' did the trick and Starr's boyband Frankenstein was alive.
NKOTB lasted up until 1994 when the group disbanded after lack of interest for their final album 'Face The Music'.
NKOTB has almost completed work on the new album. Wahlberg wrote most of the record with Knight and McIntyre. It is still to be scheduled.
