Norman Cook's Southern Fried Records is now a part of the Mushroom Group of Companies in Australia after signing a deal with Liberator Music.
Southern Fried Records is the home of Armand Van Helden and delivered the Van Helden hits 'NYC Beat' and 'I Want Your Soul' as well as the album Ghettoblaster'.Liberator Music is one of Australia's biggest independent labels and distributes The Futureheads, Jackson United (Chris Shiflett from Foo Fighters), Michael Franti & Spearhead, Morcheeba, Krafty Kuts and Moloko as well as PIAS Entertainment artists Infadels, Joan As Police Woman, Enter Shikari, Underworld, Felix Da Housecat, Reverend & The Makers, Shy Child and Dinosaur Jr.
Artists due for release in 2008 via the new venture include The Whip, The Black Ghosts, Crookers, Mighty Dub Kats, Audio Bully, Deadly Avenger and a new project called Brighton Port Authority.
Upon announcing the new deal with Southern Fried, Nick Dunshea (co-owner and A&R Director of Liberator) said in a statement that, "Working with Garry, Norman, Nathan, Katy, Jamie and the team at SFR has always been an absolute pleasure... they know how to pick-up the hottest artists and make them even hotter." "Looking at what they have planned for 2008 makes me very excited about the talent they continue to uncover."
Garry Blackburn said, "Nick's a good bloke and runs a great outfit. He also claims to cook a good BBQ, so we will bring some sausages with us next time we visit. Our bands love Australia because the weather is good and the people know how to party."
