The nominees for the 12th annual Deadly Awards, celebrating the achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, have been announced.
Comprising categories for music, sports, the arts and community, The Deadly's are Australia's night of nights for the black community. The awards will be held at the Sydney Opera House on Thursday September 21. The nation's most high-profile indigenous Australian in the entertainment industry, Ernie Dingo, is slated to host, and the night promises an exciting line-up of celebrities, music and dance.Country star Troy Cassar-Daley dominates the nominations in the music category, picking up nods for Single Release Of The Year for 'Lonesome But Free', Album Release Of The Year for 'Brighter Day' and Artist Of The Year.
Hot urban pop act Shakaya also scored nominations for their single 'We Ain't Going Down' and their album 'Are You Ready?' and Pigram Brothers earned nominations for their 'Under the Mango Tree' album and for Band Of The Year. Australian Idol winner Casey Donovan, picked up two Deadly's in 2005 for Single and Artist Of The Year and has been nominated again this year for Artist Of The Year.
