'Cottonmouth Country', an unfinished 70's song by Lynyrd Skynyrd, has finally been completed by the surviving members of the band.
The song made various setlists by the band at the time and has been often bootlegged but the never officially released.'Cottonmouth Country' was originally recorded for the 'Nuthin' Fancy' album. It is the only known unreleased studio recording by the original band. Bootlegs feature the unfinished session with Ronnie Van Zant yelling "cut" at the end of the song.
'Nuthin' Fancy', released in 1975, was the third Lynyrd Skynyrd album.
The career of Lynyrd Skynyrd came to an end in 1977 when singer/songwriter Ronnie Van Zant, guitarist/vocalist Steve Gaines and singer Cassie Gaines were killed in a plane crash.
In 1987, surviving members Gary Rossington, Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson and Artimus Pyle reunited for a tour. Ronnie Van Zant's brother Johnny took over as lead singer.
Lynyrd Skynrd's final studio album 'Street Survivors' was re-released as a 2-CD set to mark the 30th anniversary of its release.
Rossington is unsure of how he will release the finished version of 'Cottonmouth Country'. The band will include the song in their setlist for the forthcoming Rowdy Frynds Tour with Hank Williams Jr and .38 Special.
