Queen will release their first album of new material, and first since the death of Freddie Mercury in 1991, later this year.
Although the last Queen album 'Made In Heaven' was released 4 years after Mercury's death, it was pieced together from the singer's final sessions and really an out-of-synch collection of songs that may, or may not have been released had he lived. The new record is therefore the heir-apparent to 1990's 'Innuendo'.
Ex-Free/Bad Company singer Paul Rodgers will handle vocals on the new record. He has toured previously with Queen and released a live album with the band.
The Queen line-up will feature founding members Brian May on guitar and Roger Taylor on drums. John Deacon has retired from the band but has given the union his blessing.
Rodgers, Taylor and May have jointly written and produced the material for the record. They expect to release the yet-to-be titled album on September 1.
Queen + Paul Rodgers will tour Europe from September.
