D.D. Meanie, original guitarist for iconic Melbourne fuzz band The Meanies, passed away at St. Vincents Hospital in Melbourne last Thursday, February 14.
He was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy as a child, and towards the end of his life he also suffered a short battle with cancer. He was in The Meanies from their inception in 1988 up until 1995.
He will be buried in Adelaide, his birthplace, but a memorial service will be held in Melbourne.
The Meanies hold a special place in my heart, when around 1995 I wandered into the Central Club in Richmond to see them at my first ever pub gig, back when underage shows were common.
I still remember the show to this day and it set me up for a lifetime of loving local rock 'n' roll, and for that I thank D.D. and co.
The band's drummer Ringo left a lengthy message and a few D.D. stories on the band's official website, which rather than cut and paste here, you can follow the link provided.
