Australia's Eskimo Joe has become the first act ever to be listed three times as a finalist in the one year at the International Songwriting Contest.
Eskimo Joe are now up for awards for "London Bombs," "New York" and "Black Fingernails Red Wine."In fact, Australia has scored well this year, netting 34 finalists and 32 semi-finalists in the competition.
Other acts making the grade this year include Clare Bowditch (Peccadilloes); Lior Attar (This Old Love); Gotye, winner of the 2007 Australian Music Awards best male artist, (Hearts A Mess),Abby Dobson (formerly of "Leonardo's Bride"), and Ian Houston Shadwell (Horses).
15,000 entries were received from 100 countries for the contest this year.
For Australia, this is the first time outside North America where one country has had so many finalists.
In a statement to Undercover, Candace Avery, Founder and Director of ISC, applauded the depth and diversity of music coming from Australian songwriters. "Australian songwriters are making a huge impact on ISC this year, from unknown artists to Triple J darlings. Covering the spectrum of contemporary genres, they reflect the wealth of talent that exists across Australia, and ISC is very excited to be providing the opportunity for their songs to be heard in an international arena," she said.
