As reported last week in Undercover, REM will perform at the SxSW Music Conference in Austin, Texas in March to showcase the 14th album 'Accelerate'.
SxSW has now officially announced the REM showcase.At sxsw.com, it now reads "SXSW Music is pleased to announce a special showcase by R.E.M. at the SXSW 2008 festival. Athens' finest have recently completed recording of their album "Accelerate," due April 1 on Warner Brothers Records".
'Accelerate' promises to be a return to guitar-driven rock for the Athens, Georgia band. Fans were given a hint of the sound with the track 'I'm Gonna DJ' that first appeared on 'REM Live' last year and will be included on 'Accelerate'.
SxSW has also confirmed Norway's art-rockers 120 Days for the conference this year.
Lou Reed was previously announced as one of the key-note speaker's for SxSW '08. Daryl Hall of Hall & Oates fame will also be a speaker as well as perform a showcase gig.
SxSW Music Conference will be held March 12-16 in Austin.
